Who We Are
The Open Barn animal sanctuary was founded by Emily and Trevor McCann at the end of 2019. We were inspired by some local sanctuaries and consider ourselves blessed to count these sanctuaries as mentors and friends.
After a long road towards becoming vegan, just being vegan wasn't enough. While still living at our half-acre dream home with a pool we adopted our first three goats named Dolly, Canela, and Piper. These three girls were the push we needed to set off on the amazing adventure to help as many animals possible.
Months of searching later and we found an 8 acre property in Southern California with all the right zoning and smack dab in the middle of Ramona wine country! The dream became reality!
Since closing on the new property we have taken in more goats, pigs, sheep and even turkeys! We both work full-time day jobs, but cherish any help offered to care for the animal residents here. The Open Barn is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal sanctuary and all donations are tax-deductible.
Our mission is to share our residents' stories with the world, to share their quirks, desires, and individuality, and to shower them with love and kindness so that their full potential can be reached. It is our belief that by reconnecting people with these wonderful animals we can change the current trajectory of our planet and of our species.
Save animals, change lives, melt hearts, save the world...
